UNITED VISUAL ARTISTS  |  FORREST FIRE

This project explored themes of transformation, seamlessly merging real and virtual elements into a transcendent visual experience. In collaboration with the world-renowned artist collective United Visual Artists, and alongside directors Matt Clark and Chris Davenport and cinematographer James Medcraft, Winter created a series of physical sculptures designed to be orbited by light and to morph within the digital narrative.

UVA’s technical team developed an innovative orbiting mechanism that anchored the film’s symbolic structure. Scanned and reprojected versions of James Blake and Bon Iver interacted with Winter’s sculptures, creating a mesmerizing interplay between the physical and digital realms. The orbiting LED structure facilitated a dialogue of light, object, and shadow, while its steady, metronomic motion established a meditative visual tempo.

Winter’s sculptures were meticulously crafted to integrate with the virtual animations, embodying the piece’s ethereal and introspective narrative while amplifying the profound emotional resonance of the music.
