"OZONE" | PROJECT FIFTY

VISUAL ART | CREATIVE DIRECTION & SET DESIGN

In collaboration with photographer Ted Humble Smith, Emma Winter played a key role in visual storytelling for Project Fifty,
a commemorative initiative marking the 50th anniversary of the MacRobert Award, which celebrates engineering excellence in the UK. Each piece in the series reimagined the key innovation behind the award-winning companies, presenting them in a fresh and engaging light.

For the 1993 awardee, ICI KLEA, recognized for the development of the ozone-friendly refrigerant KLEA 134, Emma crafted a 3D hand-painted sphere as her interpretation of Earth from above. A larger sphere made of ice wax symbolized the technology’s groundbreaking impact, with the final image-making artistry unfolding on set between Emma and her long-time collaborator Ted Humble Smith.

Exhibited at the National Science & Media Museum.
